For most, weekends are for the beach, parties, weddings, dining out, "turning up" and sometimes just catching up on some quiet time and relaxation. right girls!?

But with all the celebrations, sometimes, we tend to over-do it and indulge in eating lots of “not-so-healthy food”, including alcohol which can put a little dent in your health and fitness goals.

While it's completely ok to live a little and enjoy the occasional treats every now and then, its also important to understand how these types of foods affect your body and wellbeing. Going overboard with excess carbs, fat, salt, sugar, and alcohol, can leave you feeling pretty bloated, tired, more hungry, and feeling guilty the next couple of days.

If that happens, don’t beat yourself up over it. Instead, acknowledge that you had an awesome foodie weekend and now it's time to get your body back on track to your healthy default lifestyle.

Here are some ways to get your body feeling better again:

FLUIDS

Drink water throughout the day. You can also supplement this with any kind of tea (green tea is perfect!). This will help flush out toxins in your body and keep headaches away! Alcohol can be pretty dehydrating and will take a toll on your body if you don’t hydrate.

WATER-RICH FRUITS

Think watermelon, grapefruit, oranges, cantaloupe, raspberries, etc. If water alone is hard to stomach, these yummy fruits will help you hydrate and restore vitamins and minerals.

PROTEIN, FIBRE AND NON STARCHY VEGGIES

Limit eating starchy carbs, if possible for at least 24 hours - since most of the weekend foods were filled with processed carbs. Instead, focus on protein and fiber-rich veggies like spinach, broccoli, carrots and asparagus. These will help you de-bloat, and get your digestive tract flowing.

BANANAS

Eat bananas or better yet make a banana smoothie! Bananas are rich in potassium, electrolytes and other nutrients that are depleted after drinking lots of alcohol.

COCONUT WATER

If you want to drink something more flavorful than regular water, try some coconut water. It’s very hydrating, and packs as much potassium as a banana!

SLEEP

This is one of the best things you can do after a tiring weekend. Your body will heal itself slowly and you’ll feel so much better. Yup! get your beauty sleep ladies :)

WORK OUT

You don’t have to go crazy trying to lose all the calories from the weekend’s festivities, instead continue with your regular workout schedule. This will help increase blood circulation and oxygen supply to your brain and will also help you recover faster by eliminating toxins from your system.
