7 important things to remember when you feel overwhelmed and stressed out!

We all get busy with work, project deadlines, personal obligations etc. and sometimes it all becomes so much to handle at once.

Oftentimes, it gets in the way of our daily routine and lifestyle, and may even hinder us from making daily meaningful progress in our lives. It’s definitely not a pleasant or easy feeling to beat.

So I've compiled 7 useful tips to help you get through those days when you feel the most overwhelmed and stressed out:

1. You are not alone.

It might bring you some comfort to know that, this feeling of overwhelm you are currently experiencing is a natural part of life. It’s just something that us humans have always gone through. We often get overwhelmed by unrealistic expectations we set for ourselves, responsibilities, work, relationships, and other personal obligations etc. 

Know that it is usually when we “dwell” on these feelings for too long, that it could potentially become unhealthy. Otherwise, you are definitely not alone.

2. It’s just a breakdown of your thoughts, not a breakdown of your actual life. 

It's important to remember that most times, what you are experiencing is just a confusion of your thoughts, and not your actual life - which is still very safe, sound and whole. Remember our minds are very powerful. They control our thoughts and therefore control who we are.

3. Don't let social media rush you.

No-one is ever doing as badly as they think they are in life.

Remember that most people on the internet and on social media in general, only put their very best selves on display everyday and that could easily make you feel like everyone has more than you do. This is usually far from reality and the truth.

Focus on your journey, we all do things at our own pace, it's not a race.

4. Things change pretty quickly when you start doing something. 

Now is the time to put yourself first. Focus on healthy lifestyle activities that can help lower your stress levels.

A hot drink and a bath can do wonders, so can exercise.

Other things you can do include, taking some time off to re-group your thoughts, talking to a trusted friend, and writing down your thoughts and feelings in a journal to help calm your nerves and figure out your next steps.

5. Be grateful for what you have

We usually have more than we think we do and it’s important not to lose sight of that.

Half of the battle is getting yourself into a positive mindset. Hence, why gratitude is so important.

6. People love you and want you to succeed. 

Regardless of what you think, and how you feel remember that your life touches so many others. There are people who love and care for you and are also rooting for you. Stay close to them and that feeling and constantly try to remind yourself how capable you are.

7. Take it all in

Try to enjoy where you are right now, learn from the process and everything you are going through, because you will probably never be in that same exact situation again.

Remember not to take everything so seriously in life, some of it won't even matter tomorrow or a year from now.
